A new town-no matter how dusty-meant new opportunities and the possibility of work. Straightening his spine, he clicked his tongue and urged his sturdy roan forward.

But he hadn’t earned his right to return to them. What he wouldn’t give to be hemmed in by those big, beautiful Archer pines right about now.

And to think when he first left his family’s ranch two years ago, he’d hungered for wide-open spaces. Another dusty, dirt-colored town in the middle of nowhere. Neill Archer sighed and slouched a bit in the saddle when he caught his first glimpse of Dry Gulch. Read my review of Witemeyer's Short-Straw Bride. While I didn't enjoy this book quite as much as I enjoyed Short-Straw Bride, it is a great book that I highly recommend! 4-1/2 stars. I thought the whole story was very well written and even had a few twists I wasn't expecting (which doesn't happen too often in straight-up romance). His back story came out at just the right pace, and I loved watching it all "click" as he recognized the role God had played in his life. However, you definitely don't need to have read Short-Straw Bride to understand and enjoy Stealing the Preacher-this book definitely can function as a stand-alone title.Ĭrockett and Joanna have a great relationship that is fun to watch, but even more than the love story, I enjoyed the transformation that took place in Silas, Joanna's father (the man who "stole" the preacher). Stealing the Preacher is the sequel to Witemeyer's delightful Short-Straw Bride, telling the story of Crockett Archer, one of my favorite characters in Short-Straw Bride. My take: Once again, Karen Witemeyer has written a sweet, romantic, and at times laugh-out-loud funny novel. With her signature blend of humor, history, and lively western romance, two-time RITA Award finalist and bestselling author Karen Witemeyer delivers a Texas love story sure to steal your heart. Is there any way she can convince Crockett he ended up right where he was supposed to be? But just when it seems her prayers have been answered, it turns out the parson is there against his will and has dreams of his own calling him elsewhere. A man to assist her in fulfilling a promise to her dying mother. A man to breathe life back into the abandoned church at the heart of her community.

He's determined to escape-which would be much easier if he could stop thinking about Joanna Robbins and her unexpected request.įor months, Joanna had prayed for a minister. On his way to interview for a position at a church in the Piney Woods of Texas, Crockett Archer can't believe it when he's forced off the train by an outlaw and presented to the man's daughter as the preacher she requested for her birthday. An outlaw's daughter who wants to change his mind. About the book (from the back cover): A cowboy who wants to be a preacher.
